Dodge County J-Turn

With higher than average crash rates consisting mostly of angle crashes at this rural intersection between Dodge Center and Kasson, Minnesota, a J-Turn was the logical, most cost-effective solution.

As the only at-grade crossing of Highway 14 between the two cities, the agricultural community was concerned about access to fields and increased exposure time on the highway. The public engagement approach involved collaboration between MnDOT, Alliant and our subconsultant team. These efforts focused on engaging individual landowners and township boards, ensuring that stakeholders’ concerns were addressed and providing clear, direct responses to their questions.

This work resulted in widespread acceptance of the process and support for the preferred design alternative, which was recently constructed.
