Alliant provided the Maintenance of Traffic (MOT) and environmental compliance/SWPPP oversight, review, and design on this $239 million, 4-year design-bid-build construction project as part of the Ames Construction Team. The project reconstructs 3 miles of interstate through the heart of downtown Minneapolis, including the interchange between I-35W and I-94, and carries an ADT in excess of 200,000 on I-35W and 250,000 on I-94. Major elements include full-depth reconstruction and concrete paving of I-35W mainline, adding northbound and southbound MnPASS lanes, full reconstruction of three complex urban interchanges, reconstruction of 11 cross or side streets, adding bus rapid transit stations, and nose wall construction. The project also included the construction of 22 bridges and installation of Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) to facilitate the future MnPASS lanes.
As the MOT Manager on the Ames Team, Alliant was responsible for reviewing bid plan set traffic control and staging plans to identify opportunities for safety, efficiency, schedule, and operational improvement. In addition, Alliant also performed site reviews to ensure traffic control was installed correctly, generated solutions to traffic capacity deficiencies, and identified potential safety risks to the traveling public. As the SWPPP Designer on the Ames Team, Alliant was responsible for generating all SWPPP amendments and conducting quality assurance audits of in place BMPs to recommend opportunities for improvement to the project team.
