Hennepin County partnered with the City of Minneapolis, Metro Transit, and the University of Minnesota to evaluate improvements to the one-way streets, University Avenue and Fourth Street, that run through the heart of the University of Minnesota campus. Alliant was selected to lead the consultant team and carry out traffic analysis, preliminary and final design, and public engagement for the corridor improvements. The preliminary design ultimately settled upon locations for six METRO E Line platforms, a protected two-way bikeway on University Avenue, protected intersections to prioritize pedestrian safety near campus, and green stormwater infrastructure. The final design was completed in under four months to meet the schedule constraints of a specific funding source.
