Mike believes that creativity and the ability to think outside the box are vital to creating value in the planning and engineering process. As Director of Traffic and ITS, he leads a team that specializes in developing mobility and safety solutions that balance users’ needs with agency policy, funding constraints, and project context. Mike’s efforts have led to the direct implementation or programming of hundreds of millions of dollars in infrastructure investments. In addition to maximizing value, Mike is passionate about improving mobility for all users throughout the transportation system.
With over 20 years of transportation industry experience, Mike is a recognized expert in the urban arterial traffic operations and context sensitive design of city, county and trunk highway streets. He has managed hundreds of transportation projects for agencies throughout Minnesota and helped carry many of these from inception of the improvement concepts all the way through construction administration. His multi-disciplinary traffic engineering background brings a unique strength to context-sensitive design projects, which is critical to providing practical solutions and development of cost-effective plans.
He also supports the Minnesota Surveyors and Engineers Society (MSES) and the Transportation Research Board (TRB).
